COVER PICTURE: HCO32 secretion by pancreatic duct cells. During basal secretion (left), HCO32 enters the lumen mainly by anion exchange with Cl2. Following stimulation (right), intracellular Cl2 becomes depleted, the rising luminal HCO32 concentration inhibits anion exchange, and HCO32 secretion is mediated largely by an anion conductance.
