In normal epithelium, Cl- secretion is mediated by (1) CFTR in a Ca2⁺-dependent (basolateral membrane hyperpolarization) and independent (protein kinase C activation) fashion and (2) Ca2⁺-activated Cl^- channel (CaCC).
